Au revoir, à bientôt.

Well, I am off again to 'dear old blighty'..leaving blue skies and warm sunny days behind. Packing warm sweaters, scarves and gloves for the cold bleak days ahead! See you all soon;-).

Spring is just around the corner

My first snowdrops 'sur le balcon'.

French General Strike

A peaceful march on Boulevard Barbes, Carcassonne- 'Pour le progrès social, face à la crise économique'

Beautiful blue skies and warm sunshine.

Marching down Boulevard Barbes at the end of their protest.

La Tempête

Apart from a few trees and chimney pots blown off, Carcassonne escaped La Tempête very lightly. Gusts of up to 80mph raged through the streets of Carcassonne last Saturday, followed by heavy rain. Some people lost their electricity for up to three days but again we were very fortunate in that respect.
Apparently, further south, places like Toulouse and the northern part of Spain suffered the worst of the storm with a considerable amount of damage and unfortunately some deaths!

It has been ten years since the last storm of this ferocity. For further pictures of the damage the storm reaped across France and Spain see the link below.

Minerve

The Cathar stone commemorating the slaughtering of all the Cathars in Minerve in 1210. For further information on the Cathars see the links below.

Sunshine in Carcassonne

Christmas and festivities over and another new year to look forward too. Carcassonne is getting back to normal-decorations slowly being taken down and the Market has reclaimed the square of Place Carnot - business as usual.

Young fireman and women being put through their paces by the river Aude.

A delightful walk along the banks of the river Aude - enjoying blue skies and the sound of birds singing and the thoughts that Spring is just around the corner - c'est la vie!

Snowing in Carcassonne

This was the view from the bedroom window last night as the snow was softly falling. You can just see La Cité in the background. Apparently, snow in Carcassonne like this is unusual (inhabituelle)...aprox every five years and aprox every fifteen years even more!

This was the view from the balcony window overlooking Boulevard Barbes early this morning.

Another early morning view from back window.

A view of La Cité from Pont vieux early this morning.

A view of the Garden of L'Ecurie - the restaurant at the back of the Atelier.

La Dome - at the end of Boulevard Barbes.

A very pretty lamp overlooking a small park near Pont Vieux.

Snow clad turrets of La Cité.

a winter wonderland. Beautiful!

C'est Moi;-)...these boots were made for walking!

Glorious skies.

The steep climb!

A Park Bench untouched by ...

Snowboarders..yeah!!...shouldn't you be at school??

The Cemetery at La Cité looking very serene with its snow blanket.
